"Ornaments on a Shelf": A Wake-Up Call to Modern Christians

I will speak the truth as always, many people who call themselves Christians are simply warming church pews.

Week after week, they walk into buildings made of mortar, stone, glass, and wood, hoping that proximity to sacred architecture will substitute for intimacy with a living God.

But here’s the question Heaven is asking:

“Why are people looking for God in buildings of mortar, stone, glass, and wood, when in fact My Holy Spirit, the Helper, is supposed to be within them?”

That question didn’t come from a pulpit or a devotional. It came in conversation with God Himself.

The sad reality is, that many Christians today are nothing more than decorative ornaments in church, "seated and holding dust like ornaments on a shelf," as God put it.

They look the part, they wear the clothes, sing the songs, and quote the verses, but spiritually?

They are disconnected, distracted, and disengaged.

Where is the presence?

Where are the visions?

Where is the supernatural direction?

Where is the intimacy with the Holy Spirit?

Let’s stop playing games, if you're not hearing from God, if you have no sense of divine direction, if His voice is a foreign sound in your ears, why aren't you asking why?

Why are so few people raising this question? How can we be satisfied sitting in a church every Sunday while remaining deaf to the voice of the One we claim to follow?

Have we exchanged God's presence for Christian performance?

It’s not the building that sanctifies the people, it’s the Spirit of God dwelling within them, and yet many have never met the Holy Spirit.

They know church culture, not kingdom power, they’ve been taught how to shout, dance, and tithe, but not how to listenobey, and discern.

Where is the Spirit-led life?

Jesus didn’t come to raise up building-goers. He came to raise up Spirit-filled disciples, men and women who are led by the voice of God, who walk in power, truth, and love.

The church was never meant to be a performance center or a country club for the religious.

It was supposed to be a launching pad for Spirit-led believers to impact the world.

But we’ve gotten comfortable. Church has become a habit, not a hub for transformation.

We've mistaken busyness for holiness. We know how to sit through a sermon, but not how to sit still and hear from God.

This is a call to awaken.

Stop going through the motions, stop thinking attendance equals anointing, stop assuming that because you’re in a building that houses a cross, you're connected to the One who died on it.

If God’s Spirit isn’t dwelling in you, directing you, convicting you, transforming you, then you’re missing the entire point.

You weren’t called to be a religious shelf ornament.

You were called to be a living temple of God’s Spirit.

So again, why aren't you hearing from God?

It’s time to stop pretending.

It’s time to start seeking.

It’s time to stop performing.

It’s time to start communing.

The building isn’t the destination, it’s just a structure.

The Spirit is the guide.

And God is waiting for you to realize, He’s been inside you the whole time.

Romans 8:9:

"You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. No one who does not have the Spirit of Christ belongs to him"

John 14:17:

"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

1 Corinthians 3:16-17:

"Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?
